COLLECTION
At present, the Central Library has over
5,51,445 volumes of books on record (including those loaned to
Departmental Libraries), 80,000 bound volumes of journals, 4583
theses and 7000 dissertations, and 37,000 items of non-book
materials such as reports pamphlets, maps and micro-forms. In
addition, the Second Campus Library has over 21,000 volumes. Books
on all subjects are available in the library. Some valuable rare
books may be consulted within the library with special permission.
Reference Books – There is a
collection of conventional reference books like dictionary,
encyclopaedia, gazette, handbook, manual, abstract, index,
directory, yearbook, census, govt. publication etc. for ready
reference and general information. Members are advised to consult
the reference collection in the Reference Section, which is on the
second floor.
Journals
– The University Library subscribes to about 1149 print and 2364
online journals, both Indian and Foreign. The University also has
access to around 4000 online journals more through INFLIBNET and
INDEST Consortia. In total, the University Library has access to
around 7000 Journals.
Other journals are obtained from various
project grants or received gratis. Current journals are displayed in
the current journal section, which is on the first floor for free
use. Back issues are bound. Loose or bound issues are to be
consulted within the library.
