General
Rules for All Admissions
1. Application forms may be obtained, either in person or through
a messenger, from the University Information j Counter on paying
the notified fee during working hours (11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2-30
p.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays).
Forms may be also obtained by.post on sending a crossed demand draft
for the requisite amount drawn in favour of 'Jadavpur University'
and accompanied by a self-addressed stamped (Rs.4) envelope (size:
2'5 cm. x 10 cm.). The remittance should be sent to the Senior Superintendent,
Information office, Jadavpur University, Kolkata-700 032.
All application forms must be properly filled in. Incomplete or
irregular forms will be rejected.
2. Applications received after the last date will not be entertained.
3. Acceptance of the application does not guarantee issue of admit
card or call to interview or admission test, let alone actual admission.
The application fee is not refundable under any circumstance.
4. The original admit card (for age verification) and original mark
sheet of the last qualifying public examination, with all other
relevant documents, are to be produced at the time of written test
or Interview and also, if the candidate is selected, at the time
of admission.
5. Any candidate who does not satisfy the criteria of eligibility
will not be considered for admission, even if he/she appears at
the written test or interview or is selected by mistake.
6. Candidates must report for the written test or interview half
an hour before the scheduled time. Grant of interview does not confer
right to admission.
7. A candidate will get full refund of payment if he/she surrenders
his/her admission within 15 days from the date of admission.
8. Hostel accommodation is not assured.
9. Candidates are advised to read carefully the Information Brochure
issued along with all prescribed application forms.
10. Admissions to all courses of study are made strictly in order
of merit on the basis of marks obtained at the last qualifying public
examination and lor the Joint Entrance Examination or the admission
test plus viva-voce/
interview, as applicable. Failure to appear at the interview or
viva-voce, where held, will cancel the candidates right to admission.
11. If a candidate is granted provisional admission pending publication
of the results of the last public examination, his/her admission
is liable to be cancelled if he/she does not submit proof of having
passed the examination (fulfilling the minimum requirement of marks,
if any) within the stipulated period after admission or of classes,
as the case may be.
12.Notifications for admission to all courses of studies are published
in leading newspapers.
13. The conditions for eligibility, and rules and regulations for
admissions, may be altered and modified from time to time; subject
to the approval of the Executive Council and / or Court of the University.
Such changes and' modifications will supersede the information in
this Prospectus.

Migration of Students
New entrants whose last public examination was under another university
(or, for undergraduate admissions, under i a board or council other
than the West Bengal Council for Higher Secondary Education) will
have to submit a Migration Certificate from the board/council/university
last attended positively within 4 (four) months from the date of
admission to this University, failing which their provisional admission
is liable to be cancelled.

Recognition of Degrees from Other Institutions
For purposes of admission, degrees and diplomas of all Indian universities
established by statute and recognized by the University Grants Commission
are generally recognized as equivalent to those awarded by similar
examinations, degrees and diplomas of Jadavpur University. In case
of uncertainty or dispute, all questions of equivalence are determined
by the Committee set up by the University for the purpose.

Registration of Students
1. Students in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology are not
allowed to change their subject of study after admission. In other
Faculties, a student shall not ordinarily be allowed to change his/her
Honours or Subsidiary subject unless the same is applied for and
permitted , within 30 working days of the commencement of classes.
Such application shall be made to the Dean of the Faculty, who will
decide on the case in consultation with the Heads of the Departments
concerned.
2. Admission once taken shall be counted to be for one whole academic
session, and the student shall be liable to pay all dues up to the
end of the session.
3. A student who, owing to some unavoidable reason, is unable to
continue his/her studies for part of the session, may be permitted
to have his/her name withdrawn from the rolls with effect from the
month in which he/she applies, provided he/she has paid all dues
for and up to the previous month, He/she will be eligible for readmission
in the following session without having to pay any dues for the
unexpired period of the previous session.
Such students should apply for and take readmission
within three weeks of publication of results of the previous year's
examination, provided that in an appropriate case the Faculty Council
may grant such relaxation of the period as it may deem fit.
4.A student may be permitted to migrate from the University after
payment of all dues up to the month In which he/she migrates.
5. No student is allowed to withdraw except as under clauses 3 and
4 above.
6. A student who has already obtained the Master's Degree from an
Indian university is not eligible for admission to the Master's
course of this University in the same subject in which he/she has
obtained such degree. Such student may, however, be admitted to
the Master's course in any other subject if he/she satisfies the
requirements for admission to such course.
7.No undergraduate or postgraduate student of this University shall
simultaneously pursue any other course of study leading to a degree
in this or any other University.

Scholarships, Medals and Prizes
N.B.: Only regular students (i.e., those who are not casual students
or repeaters in the same class) will be eligible for the award of
a prize or medal. If the candidate otherwise qualifying for such
a prize or medal is excluded on these grounds, the medal will be
awarded to the next candidate in order of merit.

1. (a) Faculties of Arts and Science:
Scholarships in the form of free-studentships for the next session
will be awarded to the: students standing first and second in each
subject in the following examinations, provided they obtain at least
60% marks in the aggregate.

tenure. Further continuation of the scholarship is subject to scoring
over 70% marks in the subsequent examinations as well.

If a candidate at the time of award, by virtue of his/her results
in the last school- leaving or University Examination, is enjoying
a free-studentship awarded by the Government or some authority other
than this University, the terms of which
exclude his/her enjoying any other scholarship, he/she will be given
a certificate of merit.
2. The University will award medals to all candidates securing first
position in order of merit in the Bachelor's degree or Master's
degree examination of the University in any subject, provided that
they have been placed in the first class. In adjudging places of
merit, the results of supplementary examinations will not be taken
into consideration - i.e., only those who have passed the examination
at first chance will be considered for award.
By the First Ordinances under the Jadavpur University Act, 1981,
only regular students shall be eligible for the award of any medal.
('Regular student shall mean a student who is not enrolled as a
casual student and is not a repeater in the same class.) In case
the candidate otherwise qualifying for award of a medal is not a
regular student, it shall be awarded to the next candidate. However,
teachers and teacher-trainees who are candidates for the Master's
degree in Engineering or Technology will be eligible for the award
of medals for standing first in the University examination, provided
they have passed the examination in not more than three consecutive
years, not having failed to pass any of their M.E. or M. Tech.examinations.
3. Prizes will be awarded to students occupying the first five places
in the B.A. Part II Examination in each subject, provided they secure
not less than 50% marks in the aggregate.
4. Prizes will be awarded to students securing places as detailed
below in the "First and Intermediate Engineering Examination,
Preliminary Examination in Food Technology and Biochemical Engineering,
and Preliminary and Intermediate Examinations in Pharmacy. No prize
will be awarded to a repeater, or a
student who has not passed in all papers of the examination in the

work during the year ending on the 30th June previous to the date

9. Satyadev Loghani Book Prizes: Book prizes of Rs. 50 each to be
awarded every year to the students standing First in B.M.E., B.E.E.,
B.Ch.E., B.C.E., B.E.Tel.E., B. Pharmacy, B.Tech. (Food Technology
& Bio-Chemical Engineering) and M.Sc. (Applied Geology).
10. Radhika Prasanna Majumdar Award for a deserving First Year student
in Mechanical Engineering who has obtained not less than 60% marks
in the aggregate in the School- leaving examination
11. C. N. Neogy Award to three poor and deserving students for meeting
tuition fees of the Electrical Engineering Course.
12. Nistarini Education Trust Prizes: Two prizes of Rs.250 each
for students of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology on a
rotational basis every year from each department of the Faculty.
13. Asok Kumar Sharma Book Prize: A book prize of Rs.1 00 or a lump
sum award to a student of the Pre-final year class in Civil Engineering

Scholarships and Stipends
1. Jadavpur University Alumni Association (US Chapter) Scholarships:
awarded to one student of Geological Science, one student of Economics
and four students from the Faculty of Science and Technology.
2. D.N. Guha Thakurta Memorial Scholarships: awarded to three students
of all faculties.
3. Charu Chandra Bose Memorial Scholarships: for two students of
the Faculty of Science, standing first and second in order of merit,
and one in the Faculty of Engineering & Technology standing
first in order of merit, whose guardians' income does not exceed
Rs.500 per month.
4. C.K. Bose and K.M. Bose Stipends: awarded to two students of
the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. 4. Sundar Das Loghani
Scholarships of Rs.200/- each to be awarded to twelve students of
the Engineering Degree Courses on the basis of 'merit-cum-means'.
5. Surendra Nath Nandan Memorial Fund: for award to a poor but meritorious
student of the Four Year class of the Engineering Degree Courses.
6. Anusilan Samity Commemoration Stipend: to be awar~ed as financial
aid to poor and meritorious Final Year students in the Faculty of
Engineering & Technology.
7. Dwijendra Memorial Fund: to be awarded as scholarships to twelve
indigent but meritoious Bengali Hindu and/ or Bengali Brahmo students
of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology.
8.Surendra Nath Ghosh Memorial Schol,arship: to be awarded to an
Electrical Engineering graduate for practical training abroad.
9.Upendra Chandra Ghosh Stipends of Rs.15/- each per month for five
Bengali Hindu Students in the Engineering Degree Course.
10. Harry Kuljian Scholarships of Rs.180 per annum Bc to be awarded
to one student from each year of the 4- Year Degree Course in Mechanical
Engineering except the First Year class.
11. Karuna Kumar Acharjee Stipend: a stipend of Rs.50/- per month
for the best student in the final year tea Bachelor's course in
Pharmacy, to be determined on performance in the examination at
the end of the Pre- final year class.
12. Ganguram Varma Memorial Stipend (Scholarship): one stipend to
a poor but meritorious student of the Fourth Prc Year class of the
Engineering Degree Courses.
13. Charu Chandra Mitra Scholarship: from an endowment for awarding
scholarships to as deserving students in the Faculty of Engineering
& Technology.
14. Late S.R. Mundra Memorial Scholarship: a merit-cum-means scholarship
of Rs.50 p.m. to a Final Year Electrical Engineering student for
an academic year of two Semesters.
15. Jaminikanta Mitra Scholarships: two scholarships for final year
students in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication
Engineering.
16. Parthasarathi Ghosh Memorial Scholarship: to the student standing
first in the B.E. examination in Civil Engineering.
17. Ashalata Scholarship: awarded to a student of the Chemical Engineering
Department on the basis of merit cum financial need.
18. Kunj Kusum Scholarships: three scholarships to poor but meritorious
students of the B. Tech. Courses to be selected on the basis of
their results in the B.Sc. Examination.
19. Snehalata Datta Scholarship: awarded to a student of the Department
of Bengali.
20. Subhra Paul Roy Scholarship: to a poor but meritorious student
of the postgraduate Bengali class.
21. Bhupendranath Nandi and Bhupati Ranjan Nandi Memorial Scholarship:
to the student for standing first in the first class in the BUS
examination.
22. Nirmal Chandra Law Scholarships: awarded to poor and meritorious
students of the bat First Year postgraduate classes (on~ in Arts
and one in. Science), to be continued in the eci Second Year on
satisfactory progress in study and good conduct.
23. Sailabala Biswas Memoria.! Scholarships of Rs.1000/- each to
two female postgraduate students of the Natural Sciences who have
secured at least B+ marks in the Honours examination.
24. Professor Gourinath Sastri Memorial Scholarships of Rs.5000/-
per annum to two postgraduate students of EI Sanskrit on the basis
of merit-cum-means.
25. Sarajubala Dey, Karnabala Pal, Dwarkanath Dey, Anathnath Dey,
Amiyanath Dey and Anilnath Dey Book Th Prizes of Rs.500/- each to
undergraduate students on the basis of merit-cum-means. The entire
amount can pe also be given to a single student in case of urgent
need.
