Welcome to Jadavpur University

Jadavpur University is a State University in the state of West Bengal. Its parent institution was set up by the National Council of Education, Bengal, in 1906. After India's independence, the institution was converted to a University under the First Jadavpur University Act in 1955.  Jadavpur University has been declared a University with Potential for Excellence by the University Grants Commission. The University has also been accredited with the status of 'five star' by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

The Engineering Faculty has long been known for its excellence in training,  innovative programmes and research.

The Science Faculty accounts largely for the reputation of the University as a major centre of research in frontier areas and as a leader in devising interdisciplinary teaching programmes.

The Arts Faculty boasts many Departments of Special Assistance and Centres of Advanced Study, including English, Philosophy and Comparative Literature. It has the only Department of Film Studies in the subcontinent. Research in inter-disciplinary and emerging areas is one of its strengths.

 Jadavpur University is in Kolkata, renowned for its cultural and intellectual heritage. It had been the capital of British India for a long time, and has been a major centre of the Indian struggle for independence. Jadavpur University is a direct descendant of the movement for modern indigenous education , and the spirit is still strong in its programmes and practices.
